Fern Medicine

Fern Medicine

These beings are prehistoric and speak multitudes. The sight instantly sparks biophilia. The uncoiling of each leaf speaks inter-connection. Ferns are teachers of resilience and an ancient memory as old as the earth itself. Working with these gorgeous plants has brought me so much presence. Each leaf is precious and if you wait too long till after harvest, the leaf begins to wilt and loose its color. In order to honor the fruits of the creation, you need to act fast and not get distracted. I am so grateful for the constant unraveling of multi-faceted lessons these ferns bring.

Ferns were found in the fossil records 350 million years ago. Which makes them older then most mammals. I like to think about all that these ferns have seen. Just to remain a constant force of vibrancy.

Many have claimed ferns symbolize luck, wealth, and new beginnings. Which to me all feels like a by product of their true teachings - worth. Which is complex because worthiness is hardly something you can teach, only something you can uncover for yourself to be. There is something so powerful about the sheer persistence to exist, despite natural disasters, bouldering rocks and even lava flow. It is almost like their worth is as simple as their existence alone. Worthiness feels like the vase that informs all of life that you are now ready for your cup to be filled. If you don’t have the vase the water will fall back into the river. Luck can run out, and wealth can be spent when the shadows of unworthiness are at play. Ferns can wilt and fruit can go bad. The message I feel here is to honor the blessings of this existence by glorying it. No more mental aerobics deciding if you are worthy or not. As long as you are living you are worthy.

So dream big, bigger then you ever thought possible. Know that this life is conspiring for your greatness. And responds to your willingness to co create with it. Thank you to the land, waters, and sunlight that harmonized for these beings to be. May all beings feel peace, may all beings feel free.
