Marigold Medicine

Marigold Medicine

Marigold as we know it was named after the Virgin Mary, “Mary’s gold”. This flower first gained popularity in Mexico and its Spanish name is cempasuchil which means “flower of the dead”. It was believed that the strong fragrance and bold color would literally bring the dead back to life. Eventually the divine and medicinal qualities of this flower spread worldwide and is now also greatly revered in Hindu culture.

This specific batch of marigold feels special. Grown on a small local farm here on Maui, we received the final harvest of the season. A great rain came and knocked the flowers off the stems, but enough was salvaged to create this marigold collection. These silks now feel like glowing reminders of the light and gold available to us year round. But of course, it's an inside job.

Big over arching themes that have been coming through while working with the marigold is the power of belief, faith, and gratitude. I’ve been reading “Think and Grow Rich” and I love the story that is told about the man that was digging for gold. Essentially he dug and dug and dug until he gave up when he was only 3 feet away from striking gold! After the man that salvaged his gold digging equipment struck gold big time, the original digger sworn to never give up or take no for an answer. He applied this mindset to all streams of income and changed his perception of failure into just getting closer and closer. He went on to become a successful millionaire from this powerful message of never giving up before a break through.

This is the level of faith and belief I wish to step into 2023 with. An inherit knowing that gold is our destiny and there is no reason to get discouraged in the face of redirection. This sort of belief creates an unwavering gratitude for all things. It’s time to expect the highest possible outcome. It’s time to turn gratitude into gold. May these silks serve as reminders to your devotion to the inner gold and inner strength - and so it is.
